Use water and normal soap if necessary while cleaning the statue of Lord Shiva.
The next step while worshipping lord Shiva during Navratri is getting connected to Lord Shiva by forgetting about everything else and submerging yourself in the process. You should then place a clean cloth on the surface for doing the pooja. Keep the linga of Lord Shiva on this cloth and then start further process. Light a lamp near the temple of your home to bring light inside your home as well as the worshiping place. Lighting lamp should never be ignored in any case.
After placing the cloth, with the right hand sprinkle some clear water on the Statue of Lord Shiva or even Linga if you have that. Then pour water on the murti three times and after that, you should make use of milk. Pour the milk on the marble statue of Lord Shiva during your pooja again three times. You can even sprinkle some rose water for the amazing fragrance all over your worship place.
After the god Shiva idol is been offered water and milk three times you should first clean and dry the idol again. After this, the idol will look very crystal clear and all the negative energies that might be prevailing inside your home will also go away. Then you can Chandan which is popularly known as sandalwood in English. Sandalwood has amazing fragrance as well as soothing properties that make the statue very calm and relaxed at your home and will protect the god from the extreme heat conditions during the summer season. You can either use ready-made sandalwood powder or create your paste using the sandalwood stick and water.
Now you can offer flowers to Lord Shiva and even decorate your pooja place with lots of colourful flowers to create a vibrant and enthusiastic atmosphere all around. Lord Shiva likes flowers which are white you can even offer flowers with other colors but try to use white if you you easily find them. Another crucial leaves that need to be offered to Lord Shiva is Bel patra which is the favorite he and everyone offers on Mondays of the year.
Now you should offer delicious and nutritious Prasad to Lord Shiva which should be made using ghee and other satvik ingredients. You should take into mind to not offer anything that contains onion and garlic to make your worship fulfilled. Always offer Prasad which is made using ingredients appropriate for fasting.
The last step includes doing Aarti of Lord Shiva and bringing all the good energies and positivity inside your home and the marble temple of Lord Shiva. Aarti chanting are good mantra to make your household a sacred and holy space to live in.
